BBC Knowledge Explainer DNA

As Will Samuel, lead designer and animator on the project explains, the approach taken wasn’t just to look into a scientific future. “We needed to find a graphic style to communicate the beauty and intricacy of DNA. We wanted to create nostalgia; taking the audience back to the days of textbook diagrams and old science documentaries, such as Carl Sagan’s COSMOS and IBM’s POWER OF TEN (1977). Using the double helix circular theme as a core design we focused on form, movement and colour to create a consistent flow to the animation, drawing on references from nature, illustrating how DNA is the core to everything around us.”

Eye,Robot

“Eye, Robot” focuses on the intersection of computation, robotic fabrication, and cinematography. The course explores robotic motion control as a creative medium for designers, mainly through the use of the custom robotic animation software platform, designed specifically for the SCI-Arc Robot House.

The V Motion Project

This project combines the collective talents of musicians, dancers, programmers, designers and animators to create an amazing visual instrument. Creating music through motion is at the heart of this creation and uses the power of the Kinect to capture movement and translate it into music which is performed live and projected on a huge wall.

5th Ave Frogger

5th Ave Frogger is an attempt to imagine what the Frogger arcade game would be like if it was created today. This version of Frogger is similar to the original, except the traffic you dodge in 5th Ave Frogger is actually traveling down 5th Ave in New York City as you play.

Scanning the City Details

Traditionally Lidar is the method of choice to scann urban environments at large scale. Usually this is using an airborne method for scanning large areas using laser scanning technologies to build up large point cloud data sets to remodel the environment in 3d.

What do you think? We should scan the Capitol building, or the Supreme Court? Lots of fun options here.
